The food, the rooms, the activities, the view, EVERYTHING WAS AWESOME! Okay, the trip there wasn’t the best, but as soon as we got out of the coach and inside the building… IT WAS WONDERLAND! We sat down in the meeting room and the first thing I noticed was the cushion on the chair was so comfy, it felt like a cloud. Then the man told us our room numbers and who we were sleeping with. I got to sleep with Hugo. Our next door neighbours were Jack and Alfie. We both made a deal that we were allowed to go into each other’s room without knocking (we would warn each other if we were naked!).
After we got settled into our rooms, we had a fire drill then started our activities. I did orientation first which was finding the markers with a map and rotating the map. We got into groups of two but I got to go in a three because there would have been one left over. I was with Jack and Ellie. We called our group Animal Inc. (Ellie decided, we agreed) and off we went hunting for the markers. Some were close by but some were really far away. Rachel (our instructor) told us we were whizzing ahead and by the time we got to the last marker, I was so puffed out! So I yelled what the marker said to Ellie and Jack who were behind me and they ran back as I lagged behind. We got a trophy drawn for us and some other random stuff!
After our warm up we went to the woods to do some harder orienteering! I stayed in the same group as before with Ellie and Jack. These woods were called Johnny’s wood. It was so much harder than our warm up! There were less marks, so we had to find as many markers as we could using small paths, streams, platforms (flat ground) and luckily a map. There was also a time limit and when they gave us the five minute warning and start going back to the start. I was worried we wouldn’t find many within our time (we didn’t know how long we had) but surprisingly we found them all and came second! Maisy’s group won but I was still so happy to come second (especially since the woods were ginormous!).
When we finished our orienteering, we went back to Glaramara and went to our rooms. In our rooms we would of finished un-packing or getting ready for dinner. Some of us went into each other’s room. But finally it was dinner time! I had some delicious spaghetti bolognaise (snack) and some sticky toffee pudding (main!). Though I thought the sticky toffee pudding was too sweet I ate it all. After dinner, we went back to our rooms and hung out until we were called down for bingo. As soon as Hugo got a line my hope for getting a full house was barley any. I was 99.99999999% sure that I wouldn’t win. I thought I was right when Sophie called out “Full House” but I was wrong. She just got one number wrong! After a few more calls I shouted “Full House” and I won!!! My prize was a sweet but everyone (including the winners) got hot chocolate!
It took me a while to get to sleep but while I was awake I heard Mrs Briggs come in to check on us. While I was pretending to be asleep, I heard Hugo and Mrs Briggs talking about Hugo having to go to sleep soon and as soon as Mrs Briggs went I got up. I told Hugo id been awake all the time he was talking to Mrs Briggs! But soon I drifted off to sleep.
