A few weeks before half term, it was auditions for our play Pirates vs Mermaids. Before the auditions started, we went down into the hall to do a warm up. It was one to help us to project our voice. Then we split up into three groups. Who wanted to be mermaids (most girls), who wanted to be pirates (most boys and a few girls) and who wanted to be the narrator (only Hugo!). Then we went upstairs for the audition. We had to say (with expression) the parts we learned over the past week. The pirates had to learn, "NO MERMAIDS ALLOWED ARRRRR! Mermaids? Ugh, pirates are better than mermaids. (mockingly) With their long cascading hair and their swishy fishy tails and their all like Ooh! Get me! I'm a mermaid!". The mermaids had to learn "We don't want to go to your school anyway. It's a very silly school for very silly pirates. Mermaids are cool. Mermaids are in. Face it, mermaids are so much better than pirates!". Hugo had to learn, "Avast there landlubbers! I'm here to tell you a tale of swashbuckling. Be warned, it is not for the faint-hearted. Those of a nervous disposition should leave now. I was talking to the audience! Are we all sitting comfortably? Good now let's begin. Me Hearty High School was the most distinguished pirate school on the seven seas.". I had to wait for my turn. I said who I wanted to be then I started. We found out what part we got after a week. I was overwhelmed to find out I was Ace!
